Sri Lanka`s Cultural Triangle is

ANURADHAPURA
The oldest city of Anuradhapura
is considered the most sacred city in Sri Lanka. This city is a living UNESCO

the world. The city was established around a branch of the Buddha`s fig tree. Anuradhapura
was the first capital city of Sri Lanka that bloomed consistently for 13
centuries only to be abandoned, later after an invasion.
SIGIRIYA
This gigantic rock fortress is an
amazing palace that is another UNESCO World Heritage Site. Located at a
distance of just 3 hours from Colombo, the site consists of the ancient Sky
Palace that is jutted out at a massive 200-meter tall rock, featuring a
mid-level terrace that features Lion Gate. The fort is further surrounded by
beautiful gardens and moats on the lower levels.
POLONNARUWA
Polonnaruwa is another ancient
city of Sri Lanka that served as the capital of the country for two centuries.
After the invasion of Anuradhapura, the capital of Sri Lanka shifted to
Polonnaruwa between 11th and 13th centuries AD. During
its period as a capital, the city was ruled by the Kings Vijayabahu I,
Parakramabahu the Great and Nissanka Malla. These three rulers did their best
to foster agriculture, social development and religion and the city prospered
under their reign.
MINNERIYA OR KAUDULLA NATIONAL PARK
These two national parks are
popular for the congregation of Asian elephants which is known as “The
Gathering”. The two parks, though separate, are next to each other and are
divided by the “elephant corridor” jungle that stands between them. The
Gathering is believed to be the largest gathering of Asian elephants in the
world and takes place during the dry season from June/July to
September when the rivers dry up.
DAMBULLA CAVE TEMPLE
An ancient pilgrimage site for 22
centuries, this cave temple complex consists of 5 caves covered from top to
bottom in Buddhist mural paintings and more than 150 statues. The site, also
known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla, is a living temple, which means that
Buddhists from Sri Lanka and beyond travel to worship and pray at this complex.
Sri Lanka, although has plenty of
